BEARD CARE BASICS
As much as many of us would love to roll out of bed and look like a million bucks — it’s not happening if we don’t invest in essential beard care. Keep your beard healthy and manageable to style with these tips.
Wash
To keep your beard looking and smelling good, it’s important to wash your beard two to three times a week. During the day our beards can collect sweat and skin oil, as well as crumbs from our lunch, and other particles. Washing your beard will clear away the debris and nourish your beard. Most men should avoid washing their beard everyday, as it can dry out your hair and beard. Instead of investing in a separate beard shampoo, simply use Chopperhead’s men’s shampoo formulated for both your head and beard.
Hydrate & Condition
Keeping your beard clean is just the beginning. Just like the hair on our head, our beard hair needs to be conditioned regularly. Often an excessively oily beard or face is due to the body over-producing skin oil to compensate for being dry. Other signs that your beard needs some love include itchiness and flakes. When you are caring for your beard, you are also caring for your skin below.
To keep your beard hydrated and nourished, use an effective beard oil as well as our moisturizing products when you shave. Apply beard oil two to three times a week or everyday depending on the dryness of your climate and what your beard needs, starting at the base of your beard and working into the tips for even distribution.
Trim
You also need to occasionally trim your beard to get rid of damage, reshape your beard, and allow it to look it’s best. Trim your beard as often as you see the need. We suggest every few weeks. However, if your beard grows faster and depending on your look, you may want to attend to it more often. Before trimming, be sure to run a beard brush through it to get rid of loose hairs and to more accurately trim your beard. As a general rule, no matter how long your beard is, it is best to trim it to mimic the shape of your face: i.e. if you have a round face, you will want to trim your beard to a rounded shape.
Attend to the Neckline
You should also attend to your neckline regularly to keep your beard looking sharp. Instead of following your neckline, we suggest trimming your beard up above your Adam’s apple — place two fingers on your Adam’s apple and where your top finger ends is where your beard should be trimmed to. With this technique, you can make sure that your beard is always the right shape and your neckline looks strong. Trim your neckline as much as you see fit. However, usually you will have to attend to it as often as you trim your beard — on average, every couple weeks.
Eat Healthy
Though properly cleansing your beard and nourishing it with effective moisturizing products will do a lot for your facial hair, to have the best beard, you have to be mindful of your health. Eating healthy, getting the sleep you need, exercising, and having a balanced lifestyle can help you grow and keep a good-looking, healthy beard.
